Lunch At Cataloochee Ranch
This afternoon we took Cindy’s mom and dad to lunch at the Cataloochee Ranch and Ski Lodge. The lunch was good and the views were beautiful.
Above is a shot of a herd of horses we came across and below is a video of two of the horses running up a hill.
My New “Deliverance” T-Shirt
While we were waiting for a table the other day at The Pisgah Inn, my mother-in-law went into the gift shop and bought me this new T-shirt. Her choice of a “Deliverance-style” message might give you an idea of why I think my mother-in-law is the best, lol.
Biltmore Estate Gate House Shop
Tuesday we drove over to Asheville to take Cindy’s mom and dad to the Biltmore Estate Gate House Shop. This is an annual stop for Cindy’s mom, but Cindy and I had never been to it before so it was a first time treat for the two of us.
One of the nice things about this shop is that, while it is part of the Biltmore Estate, you do not have to pay to enter the Estate in order to go to the shop. I’d like to visit the Estate again (Cindy and I went 3 years ago, shortly after moving to Wolf’s Haven), but I want to visit in the spring when the gardens are in full bloom.
The shop is 2 floors of delightful offerings, from food and decorations to books and clothing. Cindy bought some flavored dipping sauces, a book and some Wassail to add to our apple cider. Cindy’s mom limited her shopping picks to some dressings. Despite those minimal purchases, we spent over an hour just walking around and looking at all the fun things available in the shop. They had a Yule tree that generated its own snow from the top of the tree, falling gently on the branches, a beautiful music player modeled after the old player pianos, some enchanting toys for children and many, many other delightful items.
Like the bear cub sleeping in the basket. I’ve never seen a live bear cub in person, but this certainly looked life-like to me.
If you’ve never visited the Biltmore Estate Gate House Shop, I recommend stopping there if you get the chance and enjoying the experience.
Lunch At The Pisgah Inn
Sometimes, things just work out for the best, even when you think they won’t.
Cindy’s mom and dad are visiting us this week here at Wolf’s Haven and yesterday told us that they wanted to take us to lunch today at The Pisgah Inn, on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the base of Mt. Pisgah. They also invited our mutual friends, Rebecca, from nearby Waynesville and Kate, from Asheville, to join us and we all agreed to meet in the dining room lobby at the appointed hour of noon.
We arrived about 5 minutes after noon to find Rebecca waiting…along with what seemed to be the entire population of North Carolina. The Pisgah Inn is a very popular dining choice, both for its food and its spectacular view of nearby mountains from its 5,000 foot elevation. We were kindly informed that it would be an hour’s wait. And because it’s The Pisgah Inn, we gladly waited.
We passed the time waiting for Kate to arrive; watching as 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes and more crept by. Still no Kate. One of the unfortunate facts of The Pisgah Inn is that AT&T (our carrier) has absolutely NO signal availability in the area. One of my father-in-law’s 3 cell phones (don’t ask, lol) uses Verizon, but he could only get a minimal signal from them. The effect being that we could not call Kate, nor she us.
Finally, we were called in to a waiting table and the general consensus was that Kate had either forgotten the lunch date or that something had come up which prevented her joining us. We sat down at the table and as Robert the server began informing us of the lunch specials, who should appear at the table but Kate! We were all so happy and boisterous in exclaiming our pleasure at her arrival that poor Robert had to go silent and just wait for us to finish. Though late, because of the delay in being seated due to the heavy throng of diners, Kate ended up arriving just in time.
It turned out that Kate’s GPS had taken her the long way from Asheville to us, routing her over to Cherokee and up the BRP through the furthest western leg. She had called, but of course none of us could receive her calls.
For the next 90 minutes we had a wonderfully delicious lunch with a beautiful view and even better conversation between the 6 of us. Thanks again to Cindy’s mom and dad for treating us all to lunch at The Pisgah Inn!

Rockin’ Florida
A couple of days ago Cindy and I were enjoying (read; enduring) our morning walk with Bella up the mountain gravel roads when I happened to glance down and notice this piece of gravel that looked very much like the State of Florida, minus a little bit of panhandle.
It’s not a grilled cheese sandwich with the face of Jesus on it, but I found it interesting nonetheless, lol.

Wild Turkeys on Sheepback Mountain
Cindy and I were driving down the mountain the other morning when we spotted this group of wild turkeys making their way across the paved road.
These were taken with my iPhone, but from the car and and zoomed in so they are not as clear as I would prefer. Hope you enjoy them anyway.

Black Max Pressure Washer
Cindy and I drove to Asheville today so that I could go to the Sam’s Club and buy this Black Max Pressure Washer for use around the cabin. I picked it out after some research last week and a couple of days ago one of our neighbors told me that he had bought the same unit and that it did an excellent job of cleaning his deck.
Two years ago I stained the deck and stairs (front and side) of the cabin and they looked very nice, if I do say so myself. Last year I had no time to clean and restain them and by the time I got back home 10 days ago, they all looked pretty shabby. I was warned that keeping the deck and stairs in shape was a yearly chore and it definitely is!
In addition, our higher windows need cleaning badly. The regular water hose pressure is not enough to do more than wet them and that just doesn’t cut it. And I can use this to clean the mud off the car that constantly accumulates from the gravel roads.
So it will be put to good use in the next week or so as I get things ready around the cabin before winter arrives and we depart.
