Hospital Watch Ends

Cindy’s mom was released from the hospital this afternoon amid cheers from all who know and love her.

I don’t want to get into all the details, but it appears the cause of her periods of passing out with no warning has been identified and steps (including medication) will be used to control the occurrences.

Five days in the hospital has now come to an end and my mother-in-law is resting comfortably in her own home.

Happiness Is The Truth

Despicable Me 2 MinionI didn’t go see the Despicable Me 2 movie (nor have I seen the first Despicable Me film) but while watching ABC World News with David Muir tonight, he played a clip and mentioned that this video by Pharrell Williams from the Despicable Me 2 movie soundtrack has been nominated for best original song at the Oscars tomorrow night.

It was my first time hearing even a portion of the song and I was immediately moving in my chair to the beat. It has an infectious melody and a positive, uplifting message.

And so, in case you are like me and have never heard it, I present the video below for your listening enjoyment.

I visited the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL many years ago. This cartoon reminded me that I want to go back and visit it again.

Our Love For You

Mom in 2003

Mom in 2003

It was 4 years ago tonight that my brother called to tell me that our mother had passed away at the age of 75. In some ways it seems like yesterday, and in other ways it seems so long ago. In all ways it has been a sad sense of loss.

I still love you and miss you Mom. Cindy reminds me that I’ll always have you in my heart and in my memories, but there is still that longing for more. I can only hope that as you left us you knew that you would always be loved.

‘Our love for you is not written on paper, for it can be erased.
Nor is our love for you etched in stone, for stone can be broken.
But our love for you is inscribed in our hearts, where it shall remain forever.’

Hospital Day

Mom and Dad Perkins on 60th AnniversarySpent most of the day at the hospital with Cindy and my father-in-law as the doctors try to determine why my mother-in-law has suddenly started passing out while standing.

It started last Thursday when Cindy’s parents were out of town visiting some relatives and my mother-in-law passed out while standing talking in the living room. Then it happened again Monday in a parking lot. Both times she hit her head causing her to have a couple of nice goose eggs on the back of her head.

Last night she was home and standing by the kitchen closet when she passed out again. Fortunately, since we were aware of the possibility, I was standing behind her and Cindy to the side so when I saw her start to fall away from me I wrapped my arms around her waist and held her up, then we slowly lowered her safely to the floor. Then this morning, between 6am and 8:30 am she passed out 4 different times; each time we were there to prevent any falls or serious injury. These occurrences happen with no warning; no feeling of dizziness, no blurriness of vision and no nausea. Just a sudden “lights out” as if someone flipped a switch. And they only last 15 to 30 seconds.

We got to the ER at 9am and it took 2 hours for them to get her back to a room for observation and then another 5 hours to get her transferred to a room for the night. Brain scan and chest x-rays reveal no issues in either of those areas and they are now wondering if there is a blockage of some type between the heart and brain so they will be doing an ultrasound on her neck tonight or tomorrow morning. There is a huge difference in her blood pressure from lying, sitting and standing with it dropping quite a bit from lying to sitting and even more from sitting to standing, so they are looking at what might be causing that, as well.

We’re hoping for some good news tomorrow. Thankfully she is in no pain or discomfort, just a sense of being tired of feeling like she blinks and then suddenly finds herself staring up at faces of loved ones hovering around her.

Jade Runs The Mickey Mile Race At EPCOT

This past Friday morning, February 21, 2014, Cindy and I traveled out to EPCOT to watch our four-year-old granddaughter Jade run in the “Mickey Mile” race. As it turned out, you could see the start from a distance but could only take photos or video tape the last few hundred feet to the finish line.

Cindy positioned herself at the last couple of hundred feet before the finish line with Jade’s Mama to video tape Jade and her Papa as they ran past on the way to the finish line, while I was on the far side of the finish line high up in the stands to take photos as Jade approached and crossed the finish line and received her medal.

We had so much fun watching and cheering on Jade as she completed the mile in 15:29!

First up below is the video Cindy shot of the last 30 seconds of the race as Jade approached the finish line. If you watch closely you’ll see Jade’s face burst into a huge smile and she almost stops when she sees Goofy near the finish line because she just loves Goofy and was so happy to see him.

Here are some photos of Jade before the race, crossing the finish line, receiving her medal, and getting her photo taken in the winners circle.
