According to the DC Comics Calendar, today, June 29th, is the day the superdog known as Krypto arrives on Earth.

Krypto made his first appearance in Adventure Comics #210 (cover dated March, 1955, just 4 months before MY arrival on Earth) when a then-Superboy (Kal-El) discovers a flying dog and pieces together that his childhood pet on Krypton was used as a test subject by his father Jor-El when he was developing a rocket to save his family from Krypton’s impending doom. The rocket was successfully launched but hit a meteor storm and was knocked off course, resulting in it not reaching Earth until Kal-El was a teenager.
In his earlier appearances, Krypto was a cartoonish looking white dog with sometimes almost-human like expressions. Later renditions were more canine in appearance and wore a collar with a cape attached, much like Superboy.
If you check this Superman Fandom entry, you can see Krypto had a varied history through the years. Today, in the James Gunn DC Universe of movies, Krypto actually belongs to Superman’s cousin Supergirl.
But when I read the comic books in reprints as a boy myself, I had a dog and I remember being excited that Superboy finally had a superdog he could play with, and that it was his childhood pet that he was reunited with.
So for me, Krypto will always be Superboy’s dog.
And today will always be the day Krypto arrives on earth.
