It was 33 years ago tonight around 10:50 pm that John Lennon was gunned down in front of his apartment in New York City across from Central Park, shot 4 times in the back by Mark David Chapman. Rushed to the ER of Roosevelt Hospital he was declared dead 17 minutes later at 11:07pm.
Earlier this year I walked through the part of Central Park known as “Strawberry Fields” and designated as a memorial to Lennon. People from all over the world who were touched by his music come every day to pay their respects, remember and maybe imagine what the world might be like with him still in it.
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
